After taking pictures of paranormal phenomenon, I try duplicating them by any means necessary to find a reason for such causes. Shaking a camera can cause certain distortions, cig smoke, reflections and etc. It is from my experience that entities can trick you by showing up in reflections. Sometimes they know that you’re chasing them with a camera and they like to play “Hide and go seek.” For what reasons do some do this? I just don’t know. Unless the entity is close to the camera, the wisp of " smoke" is generally centralized even though it doesn't consist of smoke.
Most of the time when I take photos at a haunted location I get what is known as the “Orb Phenomenon.” It seems that true Orbs are made up of Electromagnetic energy spheres. How we know this is because our EMF (Electromagnetic Frequency) indicators react every time a entity is near, and if you take a picture immediately you will usually find a Orb in the picture. Even our own bodies are made of energy and I believe that once we pass on to the next plane of existence, it is my theory that we ourselves as human beings take the same energy formation as Orbs.
It seems to be easy to duplicate Orbs in a photo, either by water droplets, snow, or heavy fog. However, with a trained eye you can know the difference. For starters I have photographed a lot of Orbs, and it is rare that you would get hundreds of Orbs in a haunted location. Usually they are spread out, travel alone or in small groups.
My wife and I use a Vivatar Vivi Cam digital camera due to we were tired of spending all that money on film and developing. Believe me when I say we throw out a lot of pictures that don’t have any signs of the paranormal in them. If you can’t afford a digital camera, then any 35mm camera with a flash will do. I have had better results using a 400 speed or better film.

You can spend as much money on equipment as you want, but it won’t necessarily be better than the cheaper equipment. To record EVPs, you can use any tape recorder; however, you would want to use an external microphone with it to reduce the motor noise from your recorder. If you have a digital recorder, it will not be necessary to have a microphone due to the fact that no mechanical devices are in it.
Here are the names of the Equipment ESPRS uses for recording EVPs
Radio Shack CTR-120 cassette recorder
GE Fast Playback handheld cassette recorder
RCA digital voice recorder
It is better to have more than one recorder going while doing an EVP. There have been times that I have had an entity speak in one recorder and not the other at a haunted location. So basically, the more recorders the better! It is imperative that you keep your questions short with enough pauses between questions to give the entity enough time to answer you if they choose to. I usually split the group into twos with recorders, and spread out at the locations as we investigate.
I have had best results however talking to my assistant about something while the recorders were on and I have had the ghost or entity comment on what we were discussing at that very moment. I found that at times you can entice an entity to speak to you that way. Ghosts can be very opinionated and capricious at times and getting them to talk can be difficult.
You should always remember that not all ghosts know that they are dead; it’s not good to make an entity "freak out" so to speak by pointing out the fact that they are "departed". So it is my suggestion not to ask how the ghost died or when they died. Ask your questions as if the entity is still a living human being; technically, they still are but trapped in our plane of existence for whatever reason.
When we do EVP’s we always use blank cassette tapes, right out of the wrap for our recorders. That way you won’t hear anything that was once on the tape when you dubbed it over, and you can lay to rest the wagging tongues of skeptics who say "that was pre-recorded." When we don’t get any EVPs we usually throw the old tapes away or re-use them for our own personal use; i.e. recording music.
NOTE: “It is not good to do EVPs with a lot of people around!” I personally won't have more than four people in ESPRS due to people I have had in the past assisting me having a problem with not keeping their mouths shut, and were there for their own personal entertainment rather than being serious researchers in the study of the paranormal.
